If you’re looking for the timeless PUMA suede style, you will find it in different iterations right here. There are more retro vibes from other models of PUMA shoes for men, and there are smart/casual tonal leather trainers that will complement all your outfits with ease. Modern meets vintage in various styles and then there are uber-contemporary men’s PUMA running shoes and other sporty kicks with neon details and PUMA’s advanced running tech built in. To understand PUMA’s design tech you need to go back to the trademark wavy line on the side of the PUMA suede and many other PUMA shoes for men – the Formstrip.

THE HISTORY OF THE FORMSTRIP

Though it’s now a key aesthetic detail for many PUMA shoes, the Formstrip, especially at the start, was not at all about looks. It was introduced just before the 1958 football World Cup. Lightweight materials were being used for the first time in football boots but they were causing stability issues. PUMA put those wavy strips of leather on the side of their boots to give them better lateral support. The Formstrip allowed the boots to hug the feet for better freedom of movement and reduced risk of ankle twisting. It’s been ever-present on PUMA shoes for men since.

PUMA RUNNERS: MEN’S NEW FAVES

The kind of design genius that gave birth to the Formstrip is still there, and it has advanced. This is especially evident in men’s PUMA running trainers, which Usain Bolt used when smashing record after record. The latest PUMA runners have the brand’s NITRO foam technology, which is infused with nitrogen gas to make the shoes more responsive, lightweight and cushioned to give you the sensation of an effortless run.

It’s all in the shoes.
