FOOTLOCKER PICKS- ATHLEISURE BRANDS TO KNOW
From On and Hoka to Under Armour, here are our favorite picks of athleisure brands to take you from the gym to dinner and everywhere in between. While these brands keep a strong foothold over the best running shoes and gear, they have also diversified into lifestyle brands and are creating headlines for it, too.
A brand originating in the Swiss Alps, On's story began when retired athlete Olivier Bernhard wanted to create a running shoe with an entirely new feel. He first experimented by gluing pieces of garden hose to the outsole of his prototype. The experience of running on clouds was born in 2010. With cushioned landings and powerful take-offs, they created one of the most high-performance shoes ever. Today, over 7 million athletes around the world are proud owners of On. At the heart of this brand is constant technological innovation with a world-class team of scientists and technicians at their Zurich-based On Lab, making them the best athleisure brand to own.
Hoka was created to be a running shoe that let people fly down mountains. Today, Hoka makes gear for everyone, from pro runners to ultra-marathoners, mountain roamers, neighborhood walkers, and wild trail runners. It’s more than just a run-- and if it’s a competition for the best athleisure gear, Hoka really is headed to the mountains.
Dating back to 1996, Under Armour is a brand with a history of product innovations, ground-breaking campaigns, and partnerships. It all started with a soft, skin-tight, stretchy shirt that wicked sweat faster than anything else out there. Popularly called the Heatgear, this athleisure wear keeps athletes cool, dry, and light when it’s hot. After fully delivering on this, they made two other groundbreaking innovations, the Coldgear and the AllSeasonGear. The former keeps athletes warm, dry, and light in cold conditions, while the latter, as the name suggests, is comfortable athleisure clothing for weather conditions between the extremes. Simply put, the expertise and innovations that Under Armor has brought to athleisure style are immense.
STYLING YOUR ATHLEISURE FITS
We've invited Danyel (@_DANYELSC), one of our Stripers from Liverpool, to help you pass the athleisure vibe check-in style and give you insights on the trend. According to him, now that people have found the comfort and style of wearing athleisure, there is no going back. It's practical and in tune with the active lifestyle of hitting the gym, looking after, and loving yourself. Athleisure is confidence!
Danyel has three main ingredients for his style guide- the On Cloudtilt, Hoka Clifton 9, and the Under Armour HOVR. Ready to level up your game? Step in--
Designed for all-day cushioning and support, the Cloudtilt uses innovative computer-generated midsole technology innovation called CloudTec Phase. This has created cutting-edge cushioning sensation, optimized recycled content, and dope dye technology, enabling a disruptive new footwear concept. The technology also provides the perfect walking flow, making the shoe lighter and with fewer components. Instead of propulsion, this walking version of the drop tech has plush forefoot cushioning so that you can walk in these shoes all day.
Styling your On Cloudtilt
The best way to own the Cloudtilt shoe is to pair them with our very own LCKR fits, like the Black sweatshirt and joggers, for an all-black look with a contrast sneaker. You can also go for a completely chic, fresh look like a bright purple parachute skirt with an off-shoulder black top. Depending on the occasion, you can fully own this look with the right kind of accessories, from a purse to a tote bag. The style of the shoe is so perfectly balanced that it can rise to the occasion- from active to casual.
Moving on to the next shoe, the Hoka Clifton franchise has launched its ninth iteration-- lighter and more cushioned than ever before. It has eliminated weight while adding 3mm in stack height and is perfect for running and walking. This new Clifton 9 delivers a revitalized underfoot experience with a responsive new foam and improved outsole design. Apart from the overlays and hotmelts, the stripped-back upper has been consciously crafted with a plusher heel, reflective heel panel, and streamlined tongue with single side medial gusset.
Styling your Hoka Clifton 9
For a loose-fitted chic look, pair these with a black cargo skirt and a monochrome sweatshirt, and add a final touch with an accessory- a crossbody or waist bag, a backpack, scarf, or even a cap. Instead, you can also wear loose cargo pants with a tighter active track top and a cap for a more balanced look for men. For a more active look for women, you can pair the full-white Clifton 9 with the black Peach Fit set and a light vest for the classic black-and-white look.
Finally, the UA HOVR Machina is truly more than a running shoe. It features real-time form coaching, giving that extra edge we all crave. It uses technology that gives a zero gravity feel for the perfect balance of being a high-cushion and lightweight racing shoe. It mixes a racing shoe's speed with a long-distance trainer's comfort. The UA HOVR Machina is digitally connected, allowing runners to track and analyze their runs and gain unprecedented insight into their running form. Runners can also get a detailed post-run analysis, especially useful on longer runs.
Styling your UA
Pair the grey Under Armour Essentials active tracksuit with the shoe for a complete UA look. Alternatively, you can pair just the track top or pants with a loose-fitted bottom or top. Danyel thinks it's a great choice because Under Armour has built-in UA technology, which gives more energy, increases strength and endurance, and lowers muscle fatigue.
As a final tip, Danyel says that leggings, joggers, tops, and hoodies, specifically matching sets, would go with all these shoes for women. For men, tracksuits, shorts, and tights with baggy shirts would give a look that owns the trend. Tight-fitted clothes made in Lycra material are perfect for those with an active lifestyle.
